POSTERS FOR FILMS OF THE CZECHOSLOVAK NEW WAVE

POSTERS FOR FILMS OF THE CZECHOSLOVAK NEW WAVE

15. 7. – 30. 10. 2023

The Czechoslovak New Wave wasn't a phenomenon only in the history of Czechoslovak cinema, but also made our films and their creators famous all over the world.

The key filmmakers of the Czechoslovak New Wave: Miloš Forman, Věra Chytilová, Evald Schorm, Jan Němec, Juraj Jakubisko, Ivan Passer, Pavel Juráček and others collaborated in designing posters for their films with generations of related artists. Their wish was that the film poster promoting their films should be eye-catching, fresh and new. This, as the exhibited posters confirm, was fully achieved and these posters are among the highlights of the Czechoslovak poster school.

The poster for the short story film Perličky na dně was created by Jiří Balcar. It is said that Bohumil Hrabal, the author of the novel, decorated his caddy in Kersk with this poster and is depicted on the poster itself.

The sculptor Zdeněk Palcr is one of the most distinctive poster designers of the 1960s, and the collection includes two posters for Miloš Forman's legendary Lásky jedné plavovlásky and Ewald Schorm's Každý den odvahu.

There are also posters for other important films of the Czechoslovak New Wave: Sedmikrásky, Den sedmý noc osmá, Hoří má panenko, Démanty noci, Černý Petr, Případ pro začínajícího kata a Intimní osvětlení.

The exhibition was prepared for Bio Central by Terry's Socks Film Gallery.

The exhibitions at Bio Central are financially supported by the Hradec Králové Region. Thank you.
